AMROHA has a long historical background, which is saved in almost 38-40 historical books. Main books are "NUQBAT-UL-TWARIQ", "AAEN-E-ABBASI", "TARIQ-E-ASGHARI", "TWARIQ-E-WASITA", "TARIQ-E-AMROHA", "TARIQ-E-SADAT-E-AMROHA" and "NAWA-E-RAQM". According to Government Gazette, AMROHA was established by RAJA AMARJODA around 474 BC (i.e. around 2500 years ago).
TOMAR and RAJPUT had also ruled here after RAJA AMARJODA. CHAUHAN and KAYAST had also ruled over AMROHA. This area had been captured by MUSLIMS around 1193. QUTUB-UDDIN AIBAK had appointed SHAMS-UDDIN ILTUTMISH as governor of this area. When ILTUTMISH had himself became king, he appointed a separate governor for AMROHA. HATIM KHAN, the follower of AMEER KHUSROO, had also ruled over AMROHA for some time. When MUGHALS came into power, they had also ruled over here. RUHALES and NAWAB of AWADH (now Lucknow) had also ruled here. Finally EAST INDIA COMPANY had taken over this area.
AMROHA is situated 130 Km from city of MIR & GHALIB ( i.e. DELHI) in EAST and 300 Km from city of AATISH & NASIQ (LUCKNOW) in WEST. It is only 57 Km far away from RIYASAT RAMPUR. According to geographical position, AMROHA have some special characteristics. City is covered by MAZAR of AULIYA-E-KARAM & DARGAH, mango orchards and sweet water ponds.
Many AULIYA-E-KARAM had visited here in almost every century. Some of AULIYAS had born here and given knowledge and manner to the people of AMROHA as well as peoples outside. But HAZRAT SHAH WILAYAT SYED HUSAIN SHARF-UDDIN NAQVI WASTI is the most popular and great saint among them. A number of followers from local as well as remote areas are still being visiting his DARGAH SHARIF. The MIRACLE for him is that SCORPIO does not bite with in the boundary of his DARGAH. Other popular SUFIS are SYED AHMED GANJ RADAN, KHAWAJA MOHAMMAD YAQOOB (s/o BABA FARID-UDDIN MASOOD GANJ SHAKR), SHAH NASIR-UDDIN, KHAWAJA MOHAMMAD QATIR, SHAH IBN-BADAR CHISTI, SHAH AFRAL-UDDIN, SHAH ABDUL_RASOOL QADRI and SHAH ABDUL-HADI SIDDIQUI etc.
AMROHA is pride to have a long list of scholars. SYED MOHAMMAD MIR ADL, who is famous for his knowledge, was the CHIEF JUSTISE of DARBAR-E-AKBARI and GOVERNOR of SINDH in MUGHAL period. SYED MOHAMMAD ASHRAF had got title 'DANISHMAND' (i.e. a great wise person) from MUGHAL SULENATE. SYED MOHAMMAD IBADAT-I had written lot of great books. MAULANA NAJ-UL-MILLAT had established MADARSA NAZMIA and MADARSA WAIZAIN at LUCKNOW. MAULVI ADLAD HASAN "SALEEM" had started a religious school ( DAR-UL-ULOOM SYED-UL-MADARIS) at AMROHA. MAULANA AHMAD HASAN "MOHADDAS" AMROHVI was also famous for his knowledge. MAULANA SYED YUSUF HUSAIN was the DEAN FACULTY OF THEOLOGY at ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERTRY. MAULANA SYED MASROOR HUSAIN had worked for ISLAM for a long time at MADGASKAR and FRANCE. MAULANA SYED ZAFAR HASAN had also written great 237 books. MUFTI NASEEM AHMAD FARIDI and MAULANA SYED MUHAMMAD IBADAT "KALEEM" had also worked for ISLAM religion.
AMROHA had also a long history of HAKEEM. "QARABA DIN-E-JALALI", the famous book for TIB, had written by HAKEEM JALAL-UDDIN MUQITALIF. HAKEEM SYED MOHAMAD was the primary HAKEEM for RIYASAT HYDERABAD. HAKEEM AHMAD SYED was the principal of TIBBIYA COLLEGE, DELHI. HAKEEN FAREED AHMAD was the main HAKEEM for NAWAB RAMPUR. HAKEEM KIFAYAT ULLAH, HAKEEM HAIDER NAZAR and HAKEEM SAFDAR NAZAR were also famous HEKEEM from AMROHA.AMROHA had also participated in the freedom fight for INDIA. One of the famous meeting against British rule was organized at DARGAH SHAH WILAYAT, AMROHA, in 1857. SYED GULZAR ALI and SYED SHABBIR ALI are also known as freedom fighters. SYED ABUL FAZAL, the brave warrior, had won SUBBI FORT.
AMROHA is also famous for its great poets and writers. Sometime AMROHA is also known as SHIRAZ-E-HIND, due to its participation in poetry and prose. MIR ISMAIL, the first MARSIYA NIGAR from Northern INDIA, was belongs to AMROHA. SA-ADAT AMROHAVI, the teacher of MIR TAQI "MIR" was born at AMROHA. SHAH ABDUL RASOOL, the follower of "MIR" is also buried at AMROHA. Other famous personalities are SYED MOHAMMAD ZAMAN "ZAMAN", SYED ALI NAZAR "NAZAR", SYED NAJABAT ALI "NAJABAT" and MUSHAFI AMROHAVI. HAFIZ MOHAMMAD ISMAIL "HAFIZ" had got an important status in DARBAR of SULTAN WAJID ALI SHAH and also got title of "SYED-UL-HAFFAZ". SHAMIM AMROHAVI was in DARBAR of RAMPUR. He was honored with title "FARZDAQ-E-HIND". MOMIN HUSAIN "SAFI" was another famous poet from AMROHA. SAKIT AMROHAVI was the follower of "NIZAM" RAMPURI. ALEEM-ULLAH "SUFI" and "MA-IL" AMROHAVI were the follower of famous poet "ZAUQ". NASEEM AMROHAVI is famous for URDU MARSIYA while RAIS AMROHAVI is famous for historical poetry. The famous HINDI poet "RASKHAN" also belongs to AMROHA.
AMROHA is famous for its wooden and carpet work. Mainly two types of wooden works are being done here. First is designing on wood for interior design for houses, second is production of DHOLAK. DHOLAK is the musical instrument, which is much famous from AMROHA wooden work. Another businesses are BIDI work and cotton waste.
VIQAR-UL-MULK (NAWAB MUSHTAQ HUSAIN- friend of SIR SYED AHMAD KHAN) also belongs to AMROHA. Other famous personalities are MAULANA MOHAMMAD ALI "JOHAR", Mother of SHOKAT ALI, MAULVI EIJAZ HUSAIN (who has written Government Gazette for AMROHA). SADEQAIN AMROHAVI, the world famous artists (painter) is also belongs to AMROHA.
AMROHA has some famous buildings due to its sculpture and design. Some of them are MIRAN KHAN KI MASJID (SADDO), MORADABADI DARWAZA, ASHRAF-UL-MASAJID, VASUDEV TAMPLE, EID-GAH and IMAMBARA NURUL HASAN-DANISHMANDAN. The world famous historical tourist IBN-E-BATUTA had also visited to AMROHA.
AMROHA is also famous for its cultural and communal harmony. Although people from all communities resides here but every religion have a helping hand for other religions. All festivals like EID, HOLI, DEEVALI etc. are being celebrated by all communities here. MUHARRAM from AMROHA has its fame around the world. People from all communities participates in JULOOS of MUHARRAM and visit IMAMBARAS in month of MUHARRAM.
