Like other places around the
world, people in Amroha commomorate a period of
almost two months and 8 days in full grief and
mark of sacrifice on this great tragedy of Imame
Mazloom Hussain (a.s.) grand son of Prophet Mohammad
(s.a.w). This period starts from the end of Zilhajj,
continues in Moharram and Safar-e-Muzaffar, and
ends up in the first ten-days of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
But in general, this whole period is also sometimes
(loosely) called 'moharram'. Like other cites
of India in Amroha specially people of other communities
apart from muslims, Hindus and Sikhs also accompany
the days of commemoration days.
In Azadaari,Amroha is recognized throughout the
world. because of the:
1) the way mourning is practised in Amroha, &
2) creative contributions in the sphere of azadaari
which includes Marsiye, Salaam, Nohey, etc
